A Weekend at the Mustard Pot

We absolutely love York. This historic city is full to bursting with character, history, green space and so much to do that you could spend years working your way through all that it has to offer. Therefore I was absolutely thrilled when Cat, Mart and Martha from The Mustard Pot invited us to spend theContinue reading “A Weekend at the Mustard Pot”

Marske & Telfit Bank

As you may know if you’ve been following this blog for a while, Swaledale is our favourite place to get out for a walk. Relatively close to home and much less crowded than places like Wensleydale and Ribblesdale, Swaledale has more than its fair share of dramatic scenery and public footpaths to lead you toContinue reading “Marske & Telfit Bank”

Preston-under-Scar

After a busy few weeks over Christmas (including a long journey up to the Cairngorms and back), we decided to have a nice easy weekend without a long drive for a walk. We also wanted a walk which was reasonably quick and easy while we were still in recovery mode! Looking online and in ourContinue reading “Preston-under-Scar”

Ellington Firth

Last weekend the conditions were less than ideal for getting out for a walk. Storm Arwen swept across Scotland, the North East and Yorkshire, leaving thousands (including us) without power. The lights went out on Friday night and we were without electricity (and consequently heating and hot water) until just after 6pm on Sunday. SoContinue reading “Ellington Firth”

Greenhow Lead Mines from the Coldstones Cut

We drive past the Coldstones Cut all the time on our way to walk in the Dales. A huge sculpture of a ram’s horns which can be explored on foot, I’d never stopped here, so when Sam suggested that we start a walk from here I was excited to look around. The walk we didContinue reading “Greenhow Lead Mines from the Coldstones Cut”

Goathland to Beck Hole

Back in the deep dark days of lockdown, when we weren’t allowed to drive anywhere to go for walks, I made a list of all the places in Yorkshire I wanted to visit when we were finally allowed out again. One of the places near the top of my list was the waterfall Mallyan SpoutContinue reading “Goathland to Beck Hole”

The Head of Swaledale

Swaledale is our favourite dale. Wilder, remoter, quieter. It’s our go to choice for a local walk on a weekend. Usually we head to Reeth to walk one of the many footpaths criss-crossing the dramatic swathes of moor littered with the industrial ruins of the lead mining industry, but last weekend we ventured slightly furtherContinue reading “The Head of Swaledale”

Attermire Scar

We are just home from one of the best bank holiday weekends we’ve had in a long time. We spent three nights in Austwick on the North Yorkshire/Lancashire border, aiming to spend the weekend exploring the Forest of Bowland, after finding it almost completely deserted last August bank holiday. On our final morning, rather thanContinue reading “Attermire Scar”
