Widely renowned as Britain’s most dog friendly holiday destination, you’re hard pushed to find accommodation in Cumbria and the Lakes which doesn’t allow dogs (although there are one or two that don’t). We’re lucky enough to live close enough that we can day trip here, meaning we don’t stay as often as I’d like to, but we have managed to find a few dog friendly places which I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

The Barn: perched on the north western edge of the national park, the Barn is a cosy nook sleeping 2 adults and unlimited dogs free of charge. This is one of the best value stays we’ve found for exploring the Lakes, but it’s often booked up well in advance, so if you spot a few free nights you should jump on them!
The Queen’s Head: recently re-furbished, this pub with rooms has a luxury feel as well as tasty food.
Fiddleback Farm: this B&B in the northern fells is great value for money and serves a delicious breakfast.
Greengarth: this luxurious detached house in Keswick sleeps 5 people and welcomes 2 dogs free of charge. Greengarth is in a fantastic location with walks from the doors, and the wider Lake District in easy reach. The garden is securely enclosed (minimum fence height of around 3 feet in places) and large enough that our dogs loved it. Skiddaw rises up behind the house, with incredible floor to ceiling windows from the kitchen giving you an incredible view (and a handy way of gauging the weather on the fells before you set off on a walk!).
